By Anthony Chiang

Trea Turner didn’t wait long to make his decision.

After the Park Vista product was selected by the San Diego Padres with the 13th overall pick of the 2014 MLB Draft on June 5, Turner signed with San Diego for $2.9 million on Friday, according to multiple reports. Turner signed above his assigned pick value, which was listed at $2,723,300.

In choosing to play professional baseball, the shortstop will skip his senior season at North Carolina State.

Turner announced the news through Twitter.

Turner excelled at N.C. State, earning All-American honors in each of his three seasons and recording a .341 career batting average. Turner set the school record for stolen bases in a season (57 as a freshman) and career (117 in three seasons).
