Football: Pre-season poll of top 25 non-public school teams features three from Florida

Fort Lauderdale-St.Thomas Aquinas (No. 1), Plantation-American Heritage (No. 3) and Jacksonville-Trinity Christian Academy (No. 11) are among the nation’s top 25 non-public high school football teams, according to MaxPreps.

The organization released its 2014 pre-season rankings Wednesday.

St. Thomas Aquinas, the nation’s top team, advanced to the Class 7A regional finals last season before falling to eventual state champion Dwyer 35-28.

Plantation-American Heritage and Jacksonville-Trinity Christian both won state championships last season. The Patriots routed Clay 66-8 in the Class 5A title game, while the Conquerors defeated Clearwater Central Catholic 34-7 in the Class 3A state championship game.

De La Salle of Concord, Calif., is ranked No. 2, while St. Edward of Lakewood, Ohio, is No. 4 and Servite of Anaheim, Calif., is No. 5.
