Seminole Ridge defensive back Jalen Young verbally committed to FAU, choosing the Owls over schools like Miami, Boston College and Louisville on Thursday night. Palm Beach Gardens athlete J’Quan Napier followed Young’s lead and verbally committed to FAU on Friday morning.

Young and Napier join Seminole Ridge running back Kerrith Whyte, who verbally committed to the Owls on Monday.

The trio is now part of FAU’s 2015 recruiting class, along with three-star Dwyer quarterback Daniel Parr. Parr verbally committed to the Owls in May.

“FAU has been on my mind lately and I finally sat down and talked to my mom about it,” Young said of the decision. “She thought it was a good idea, so I just went with it.”

According to 247 Sports, 17 of the 18 verbal commitments FAU has received for its 2015 recruiting class come from Florida. Four of those commitments are from players in Palm Beach County schools.

“It’s nice to see FAU recruit Palm Beach County because they sort of struggled to recruit here before,” Parr wrote in a text message to The Palm Beach Post. “But I think there’s so much talent in Palm Beach County, Broward County and Miami-Dade County, they shouldn’t have to do that much recruiting out of the state.”

Young (5-11, 176) is listed as the 10th-best recruit on the PBgametime Class of 2015 Big Board. He recorded 96 tackles, four sacks and five pass breakups last season.

“I’m ready to take FAU to the next level,” said Young, who still plans to take all of his official visits in the fall. “I felt a lot of love from them. When I went to visit, it felt like home. It just felt right.”

Napier is listed as the 38th-best recruit on the PBgametime Class of 2015 Big Board. At 6-foot-3, 176-pounds, he will play at cornerback and wide receiver for Palm Beach Gardens this season. Napier said he would prefer to be a wide receiver at the college level.

Verbal commitments are non-binding until players can sign official letters of intent on national signing day, Feb. 4, 2015.

The new FAU coach is originally from Plantation and he knows what everyone knows. You can win if you keep the local stars from PB , Broward, Dade and other Florida counties from leaving to join average schools. FAU is truly on the rise. If you are a football fan, you should look into attending some games. You will be impressed. Great to see the local stars wanting to stay home and build this program. More to come.
