The Panthers were the Class 7A state champions last season, finishing 15-0 after beating Niceville 55-39 in the state title game in Orlando.

The Cobras finished 10-2 last season, winning the District 8-8A title before falling to Tampa-Plant – which is No. 15 in the poll – in last year’s regional finals.

Dwyer and Fort Pierce Central are the only area teams ranked in Florida’s High School Football Top 25.

The poll showcases the top 25 teams from around the state regardless of classification.

Miami-Dade and Broward County schools hold the first four spots in the poll, with Miami-Booker T. Washington ranked No. 1, Miami-Central No. 2, Plantation-American Heritage No. 3 and Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas No. 4.

Washington (Class 4A), Central (Class 6A) and American Heritage (Class 5A) were state champions last season, while St. Thomas Aquinas fell to Dwyer 35-28 in the 7A regional finals.

Seffner-Armwood rounds out the top 5.

A trio of Palm Beach County schools received votes in the poll, with Palm Beach Gardens (Class 8A) earning 47 points, Boynton Beach (Class 6A) earning 31 points and American Heritage (Class 3A) earning 19 points.

Kickoff classics will be held this weekend, with the regular season scheduled to begin Aug. 29.
