The Raiders and Panthers will meet for the third straight year on opening night. Dwyer won the two previous matchups, 30-9 in 2012 and 35-0 last season.

Friday’s game promises to be closer, as both teams enter the season with talent on both sides of the ball and high expectations. The Raiders and Panthers both will want to get off to a good start.

Dwyer, the defending Class 7A state champion, lost 20 starters from last season but still is expected to be one of the county’s top teams.

Quarterback Daniel Parr, an FAU commit, returns for the Panthers and hopes to build on his standout junior season. He’ll have weapons to work with in wide receiver Tavares Martin and running back Erick Hardnett, both off-season transfers.

Here’s a recap of Dwyer’s 49-23 loss to Plantation-American Heritage in its kickoff classic Sunday:

Under new coach Rick Casko, Glades Central has installed a new offensive scheme and is confident of returning to the playoffs, though the Raiders will have a tough early schedule which includes games against Dwyer, Palm Beach Central and American Heritage.

Quarterback Andre Tommie will run the Raiders’ offense, while the defense will be anchored by lineman Steven Leggett.
