Baseball: Former Park Vista standout Trea Turner goes 13th overall to San Diego Padres

Trea Turner was projected to be a first-round pick in the MLB Draft, but he still didn’t know what to expect.

However, the Park Vista product didn’t have to wait long to hear his name, as the San Diego Padres drafted the 6-foot-1, 170-pound shortstop with 13th overall pick Thursday. Turner was the first player from Palm Beach County taken in this year’s draft.

Baseball: Sean Comfort steps down as Cardinal Newman head coach

Sean Comfort just couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

After two seasons as the head baseball coach at Cardinal Newman, Comfort is leaving the Crusaders to become the head baseball coach at Melbourne-Palm Bay. Comfort, who graduated from Cardinal Newman in 1990, will move from West Palm Beach to Melbourne for the new opportunity.

“I just had a new baby and we love that area. That helped in the decision,” Comfort said. “But Palm Bay High had a nice package and they have a great program that needs to be rebuilt. I had to do this for my family.”
