Cardinal Newman continued rolling to keep the top spot in this week’s girls basketball rankings, but there was turmoil further down in the rankings.
Suncoast led the mix up, charging up the rankings after defeating then-No. 2 Palm Beach Lakes by 26 points. Seven county schools were ranked in the latest Florida Association of Basketball Coaches / Source Hoops girls basketball rankings, which were released Tuesday.
Boca Raton and Cardinal Newman remain the two top Palm Beach County teams, ranking second in Class 8A and 4A, respectively. Class 4A remains a strong suit for the county, as St. Andrew’s (fourth) and Oxbridge Academy (eighth) also rank in the top 10. It’s a new year, and there’s a new girls basketball top 10 to ring it in.
The Crusaders have reeled off nine straight wins and are one of two one-loss teams in the top 10. The previous No. 1 team, Boca Raton (which held the top spot since the first rankings were released on Nov. 30), falls three spots to No. 4 after dropping three games during the winter break.
