Football: Look Ahead to the second round of the playoffs

Seven area teams advanced to the second round of the playoffs with wins Friday, while an eighth – Jupiter Christian – will move on after its first-round opponent, Hialeah-Champagnat, was forced to vacate its playoff spot due to violating one of the FHSAA’s bylaws.

Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington are still alive in the Class 8A playoffs following victories last week, and will play each other in the regional semifinals Friday. Girls soccer: Top 10 after Week 2

Last year’s playoff teams are well-represented in the first girls soccer Top 10 poll of the season.

Benjamin (No. 1), West Boca Raton (No. 2), Jupiter (No. 3), American Heritage (No. 5), Park Vista (No. 7) and Spanish River (No. 10) all advanced to the post-season last winter, with the Stallions winning a state championship.

District play begins this week for most area teams, with American Heritage’s Thursday contest against Oxbridge Academy being one to watch.
