BOYNTON BEACH — Several of the black Park Vista High School students who complained that no black students received spots on the school’s fall cheerleading team have rejected an offer from the school to open tryouts for four more spots in the fall.

BOYNTON BEACH — Park Vista High School’s principal and athletic director offered Wednesday night to open up four spots on the school’s cheerleading teams this fall after complaints from a group of parents that the squads had no black members.

The principal and the athletic director at Park Vista High School were “unaware of the magnitude of the concerns” over the cheerleading team before allegations arose that black students were denied spots on it, Palm Beach County School Superintendent Bill Malone said Thursday.
