Playoff football look ahead and games of the week

The final week of the regular season had plenty of intense game action, including the Atlantic-Dwyer showdown, the Muck Bowl and a close Wellington-Boca game. But now the playoffs begin.

A shake-up is in store for the Post’s final Top 10 of the season. Three of top-10 teams (Boca Raton, Dwyer and Pahokee) fell to other ranked schools, while Royal Palm Beach lost to Palm Beach Central in an upset, as the Wildcats may have been looking toward their playoff match up with Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas, which is looming this week.

Football: Former American Heritage star Greg Bryant commits to UAB

Former American Heritage running back Greg Bryant committed to the University of Alabama-Birmingham via an Instagram post on Wednesday, as first reported by AL.com.

Bryant played his first two seasons at Notre Dame, where he rushed for 303 yards and three touchdowns, but left the program after head coach Brian Kelly suspended him because he did not “meet expectations.” Bryant spent this season at ASA College in Miami.

UAB infamously dropped its football program in 2014, but it was reinstated for the 2016 season on June 1.

Football: Atlantic rises to top spot in AP poll; Dwyer, Pahokee hold steady

Atlantic joined Dwyer as the second No. 1 team in the county in the Associated Press’ rankings, which were released Tuesday.

The Eagles (9-0)had previously been ranked second, but moved up a spot after Miami-Columbus dropped its game last week.

Dwyer maintained its top spot in the 7A poll despite needing a last-minute touchdown to defeat Forest Hill. The Panthers maintain a 12-point lead over No. 2 Bradenton-Braden River and an 18-point lead over Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas.

Pahokee is the third and final county team ranked this week. The Blue Devils sit at No. 2 in the state 1A poll, behind Trenton. [More]

Week 10 Football Look Ahead: Inside the new Post Top 10 and games of the week

Week 9 is in the books. Some districts are clinched, but a few are still up for grabs.

The top 10 gets a shake up this week. The top 7 remains the same despite Pahokee’s win over top-ranked Fort Meade simply because the other teams in front of them won as well. But the bottom three have changed around. Palm Beach Gardens re-enters the top 10 after clinching its district with a win over Wellington. Despite a close call against district rival Royal Palm Beach on Friday, Dwyer held on to the No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press Class 7A state poll released Tuesday. [More]
