Football: Looking ahead to an all-Delray playoff slate

Six teams were left entering Round 2 of the playoffs. Only two remain, and they are both from Delray Beach.

Here are the local teams that are still alive in the FHSAA playoffs after the second round:

Atlantic (12-0): Beat Boca Raton 29-14
American Heritage (9-2): Beat Oxbridge Academy 16-11

Atlantic defeated Boca Raton for the second time this season and move ahead to the 8A regional championship against Pembroke Pines-Flanagan. American Heritage snuck past Oxbridge Academy, avenging its regular-season loss to the Thunderwolves, and will face Clearwater Central Catholic in the state semifinals.

Six Palm Beach County teams advanced to the second round of the playoffs after winning Friday, but that number will shrink after this week, as four of those teams play each other in Round 2.

Here are the local teams that are still alive in the FHSAA playoffs after the first round:

Atlantic (11-0): Beat Wellington 34-0
Boca Raton (9-2): Beat Palm Beach Gardens 27-26
Dwyer (10-1): Beat Pompano Beach-Ely 16-14
Glades Central (9-2): Beat Miami-Gulliver Prep 61-33
American Heritage (8-2): Beat Miami-Westminster Christian 27-19
Oxbridge Academy (9-2): Beat Hollywood-Chaminade Madonna 32-24

Atlantic completed a perfect 10-0 regular season on Friday. Two days later, the Eagles earned a spot in the CBS MaxPreps Top 150 Computer Football Rankings. [More]

Playoff football look ahead and games of the week

The final week of the regular season had plenty of intense game action, including the Atlantic-Dwyer showdown, the Muck Bowl and a close Wellington-Boca game. But now the playoffs begin.

A shake-up is in store for the Post’s final Top 10 of the season. Three of top-10 teams (Boca Raton, Dwyer and Pahokee) fell to other ranked schools, while Royal Palm Beach lost to Palm Beach Central in an upset, as the Wildcats may have been looking toward their playoff match up with Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas, which is looming this week.
