Atlantic DE Shelton Johnson signs with Michigan

Atlantic High’s signing ceremony began late, but it was for a good reason.

Shelton Johnson was still trying to decide between Michigan and Florida State, so Eagles coach Tavarius Jackson pulled the four-star recruit into a room.

“It was something we sat down and talked about,” Jackson said. “That’s why it took us so long to come in. He was a nervous wreck.”

After their discussion, Jackson and Johnson walked into Atlantic High’s media center 20 minutes late Wednesday. But the 6-foot-5 Eagles defensive end had made up his mind, choosing Michigan in front a crowd full of teammates, coaches, family and media. [More]

Football: Look Ahead to the second round of the playoffs

Seven area teams advanced to the second round of the playoffs with wins Friday, while an eighth – Jupiter Christian – will move on after its first-round opponent, Hialeah-Champagnat, was forced to vacate its playoff spot due to violating one of the FHSAA’s bylaws.

Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington are still alive in the Class 8A playoffs following victories last week, and will play each other in the regional semifinals Friday.
