The University of North Florida has landed two of the area’s top baseball players heading into this season.

FHSAA Board votes to restructure baseball, competitive cheerleading state series

The Florida High School Athletic Association Board of Directors voted on Monday to eliminate the best-of-three format of the region baseball final. The two-year experiment of the format was in its second year this past season. The FHSAA received feedback that it was a strain on athletic budgets and fans when the series went to three games, thereby forcing a second day for the region final.

There also will be a qualifying round for state competitive cheer and divisions based on school enrollment, while still keeping tumbling and non-tumbling competition in tact. The state championship was previously open to any teams who wanted to participate.

Former Park Vista baseball assistant Dax Rankine will coach Atlantic
