Dwyer basketball’s Greg Louis commits to University of Pennsylvania

Dwyer power forward Greg Louis committed to the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday night, choosing the Quakers over Tulane. Louis is a 6-foot-7, 195-pound senior.

Dwyer power forward Greg Louis, a 6-foot-7 senior, is down to two colleges in his search. Louis said Sunday that he will choose between Tulane in New Orleans and University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.


West Boca Raton’s Anthony Anderson making a name in hoops recruiting circles

West Boca Raton wing Anthony Anderson, who will be a senior this year, has picked up major steam in college basketball recruiting circles this offseason. Anderson averaged 15.6 points, 9 rebounds and 5.1 assists a game as a junior at West Boca, garnering first-team recognition in The Palm Beach Post.


Wellington boys’ hoops to play in national holiday hoops tournament

The Wellington boys’ basketball team will take its talents to … Spartanburg, S.C. this winter. Bad jokes aside, the Wolverines were happy to be invited to the third annual Upward Classic, a holiday hoops tournament that will be played at Dorman Arena from Dec. 27-30.


FHSAA reclassification takes next step toward ‘Rural Division’

The FHSAA Board of Directors voted last week to continue evaluating the reclassification process in six high school sports for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 school years. More than 40 schools have expressed interest in reclassifying as a “rural school” and playing in the new class, which the FHSAA calls the Rural Division.

The FHSAA Board of Directors will vote on the new classification policy in November.


Cardinal Newman hires Tavarus Harris as its basketball coach

Cardinal Newman hired Tavarus Harris to coach boys’ basketball for the 2010-2011 season. The school announced the decision in a release this week.

Harris was the junior varsity head coach and a varsity assistant last season at Cardinal Newman. He replaces Brian Mullican, who took a job as an assistant coach at Palm Beach State.

Harris was an assistant coach at John I. Leonard and played his high school hoops at Boynton Beach.

Basketball star Vic Adams transfers back to Dwyer from Cardinal Newman

Cardinal Newman had a star in Vic Adams, a sharp-shooting guard who averaged 19.3 points a game this past season. But Adams, who originally transferred to Cardinal Newman from Dwyer before the 2009 school year, is headed back to his old stomping grounds.

Adams wrote that he was “Dwyer bound!” on his Facebook page on Friday and confirmed his move on Monday. Former Cardinal Newman coach Brian Mullican, who coached Adams this past season but took an assistant coaching job at Palm Beach State about a month ago, understood Adams’ reasons for switching schools.
