Hoops: Former Berean Christian guard Johnny Lantz transfers to Palm Beach Atlantic

Former Berean Christian standout Johnny Lantz will play for Palm Beach Atlantic this winter, PBAU announced Wednesday. Lantz spent his freshman year at Ave Maria, a small college near Immokalee.


Softball: American Heritage ace Chelsea Brandt wins Miracle Sports Player of the Year

American Heritage pitcher Chelsea Brandt was named the Miracle Sports Class 2A Player of the Year Thursday. Her teammate Marissa Mangini earned Class 2A Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Grandview Prep’s Allie Catapano (1A Offensive Player of the Year) and Jane Sallen (1A Pitcher of the Year) also took home awards.

American Heritage coach Kevin Drake won Class 2A Coach of the Year.

There are five area teams still alive in the softball regionals, and after Saturday’s games, we can finally piece together the regional finals schedule for Tuesday’s games.

There were a few surprises in the regional quarterfinals — namely Park Vista, one of the top teams in the state, losing a marathon battle with Parkland-Douglas. As Palm Beach Gardens pitcher Shelby Turnier said Wednesday night, “Anything can happen — it’s the playoffs.”

But now we’re moving on to the regional semis. Here’s the full schedule for area teams.
