Tony Kibler, a senior offensive lineman for Glades Day, is one of the area’s most entertaining and colorful talkers. Heading into tonight’s Class 1B playoff showdown against Jupiter Christian, Kibler said he simultaneously hates and respects the Eagles.

Marshyl Rothman, a two-time state champion quarterback, has spent most of the past year lamenting the fact that no major college football program had offered him a scholarship.

Jupiter Christian quarterback Marshyl Rothman and Glades Central’s L.J. Thomas were sitting in lounge chairs at a 7-on-7 tournament in Tampa earlier this year, trying to the get the attention of some Michigan assistant coaches, when they realized it.
“Dude, we’re in the same boat,” Rothman said to Thomas.

Jessie Hester and Bill Powers confirmed Tuesday this week’s game has been bumped back to 6:30 p.m.
Instead of their standard 7:30 start times, the Glades Central Raiders will begin their remaining Friday home games at 6 p.m. The Muck Bowl, which most recently was set for a 5 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 14 at Glades Central, will now kickoff at 3 p.m., Raiders coach Jessie Hester said.

There might not be a more detail-obsessed coach than Jupiter Christian’s Bill Powers — and he’d probably take that as a compliment.

Jupiter Christian made an effort to put big schools on its schedule this season in order to get some better competition and so far it seems to be working. The Eagles beat Lake Worth 40-21 Friday night but they didn’t really pull away until the fourth quarter. While Lake Worth wasn’t able to get closer than a touchdown, the Trojans hung in there for most of the game.
“We have a long way to go and when you play pretty good teams, that shows,” Eagles coach Bill Powers said after the game. “We’re very happy with the win, but a lot of our weaknesses show when we play bigger schools.”
