Palm Beach Gardens prepares for raucous crowd, wing-T at Vero Beach

Notes from Day 1: High school football season is here again

For me, the official start of the 2010 football season began at 5:55 a.m., with the first of two coffees. Both were consumed on the way to Palm Beach Gardens, the first stop on a five-school kickoff tour. Public support swells for former Benjamin football coach Ron Ream

Benjamin football coach Ron Ream’s sudden resignation has caused an uproar among parents, supporters and former players, but the school is staying silent regarding the reasons for his departure.

School administrators would not discuss Ream’s resignation publicly and several Benjamin employees said they have been instructed not to speak with the media.

“We’re still focusing on all the issues and details,” said Robert Goldberg, the Head of School at Benjamin. Goldberg, who also is a member of the board of trustees, declined to take any questions or comment further.

Jay Selvig, Head of Upper School, declined comment through a secretary Friday morning.

Parents still were stunned at the news at Friday night’s game against Pope John Paul II, which the Buccaneers won 58-23. [More]
