Ex-Benjamin football player Sam Faria’s trial pushed to March

EDITOR’S NOTE: The charges against former Benjamin School student-athlete Sam Faria were reduced from felony battery and adjudication was withheld after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery in June 2010. Faria was sentenced to community service for the charges related to a 2009 incident with an assistant football coach.

Sam Faria, the Benjamin football player who allegedly punched an assistant coach in the face and broke his nose, is scheduled to stand trial March 15.

Boynton Beach RB Josh Kelley arrested Wednesday

Two days before his team’s playoff game against Plantation-American Heritage, Boynton Beach senior Josh Kelley was arrested at Sara Simms Park in Boynton Beach. Kelley, 18, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence.

Tennessee dismisses Nu’Keese Richardson, Mike Edwards

If Pahokee’s Nu’Keese Richardson ever resurrects his football career, it won’t be at the University of Tennessee.

Volunteers coach Lane Kiffin on Monday announced the dismissal of Richardson and fellow freshman Mike Edwards following their arrests on charges of attempted armed robbery. The third player involved in last Thursday’s incident, Janzen Jackson, is suspended but remains on the team.

In a statement, Kiffin said he did “extensive research” and considered other disciplinary options for Richardson and Edwards, but ultimately decided it was in his program’s best interest to kick them off the team.

Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin told the Knoxville News Sentinel he will not allow Nu’Keese Richardson, Janzen Jackson and Mike Edwards in team facilities or meetings after the three were charged with attempted armed robbery last week.

Palm Beach Gardens police arrested the Benjamin football player who allegedly punched a volunteer assistant coach in the face during a game. The player, who is a minor, was taken into custody on aggravated battery charges Monday night.
