Recruiting: American Heritage’s Devin Singletary commits to Illinois

American Heritage’s star running back Devin Singletary plans to spend his college career in Champaign, Illinois. The senior committed to Illinois on Tuesday, as first reported by Scout.com.

“I like the vibe that I have with the coaches,” Singletary said. “Early playing time, and I know a couple people up there, and they told me a lot about the school that I like.”

Singletary, No. 6 on the PBGametime Big Board and a Super 11 pick, also had offers from Florida State, North Carolina, FAU, USF and Temple, among others. Rivals ranks Singletary as a two-star recruit.

Each weekday leading up to the start of spring practice, we’ll release a new player from the top 10 of our Class of 2016 Big Board and break down his game with an interactive graphic. Today, it’s No. 5, Devin Singletary, a running back at American Heritage.

Singletary was a key part of American Heritage’s prolific offense last season. A durable back who has speed and strength, the 5-foot-9, 195-pound junior averaged 10.7 yards per carry in 2014 and also scored 15 rushing touchdowns.

American Heritage finishes No. 3 in MaxPreps Small Schools National Football Rankings

American Heritage might not have won the Class 3A state title, but it didn’t hurt it much in the rankings.

The Stallions (11-2) finished the season at No. 3 in the MaxPreps Small Schools National Football Rankings. The list is based on the MaxPreps computer rankings.

Trinity Christian finished at the top of the rankings after beating American Heritage 27-7 in the Class 3A state championship in December. [More]
