Devin Singletary committed to Illinois in November, but when it was time to send his letter of intent, he decided to stay close to home.
The American Heritage halfback, the Post’s Small Schools Offensive Player of the Year, committed to Florida Atlantic over Illinois at a signing ceremony in American Heritage’s gym in Delray Beach on Wednesday.
“It feels great to stay home,” Singletary said. “Why not? Why change my climate? I’ve been playing in this my whole life.”

For the second year in a row, American Heritage is the last Palm Beach County football team standing.
Once again, the Stallions will face powerhouse Jacksonville-Trinity Christian (13-0), which has not lost a game since dropping a contest to Bradenton-IMG Academy on Oct. 16, 2014. The Stallions and Conquerors square off in Orlando’s Citrus Bowl at 1:07 p.m. on Saturday.

American Heritage’s star running back Devin Singletary plans to spend his college career in Champaign, Illinois. The senior committed to Illinois on Tuesday, as first reported by Scout.com.
“I like the vibe that I have with the coaches,” Singletary said. “Early playing time, and I know a couple people up there, and they told me a lot about the school that I like.”
Singletary, No. 6 on the PBGametime Big Board and a Super 11 pick, also had offers from Florida State, North Carolina, FAU, USF and Temple, among others. Rivals ranks Singletary as a two-star recruit.

Singletary was a key part of American Heritage’s prolific offense last season. A durable back who has speed and strength, the 5-foot-9, 195-pound junior averaged 10.7 yards per carry in 2014 and also scored 15 rushing touchdowns.

The Stallions (11-2) finished the season at No. 3 in the MaxPreps Small Schools National Football Rankings. The list is based on the MaxPreps computer rankings.
