2015 MLB Draft: Three Palm Beach County products drafted on Day 2

The second day of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft brought more good news to Palm Beach County.

A pair of local high school pitchers were drafted on the first day, as Royal Palm Beach right-hander Triston McKenzie was taken by the Cleveland Indians with the 42nd overall pick in the Competitive Balance Round A and Park Vista right-hander Austin Smith was taken by the San Diego Padres with the 51st overall pick in the second round of the draft Monday. District play is complete and we have just one week to go before the start of the postseason.

Park Vista is living up to expectations.

The Cobras entered the season with high expectations and they have met them so far. Park Vista hasn’t dropped a game since falling to Coral-Springs-Taravella in the season opener. Since then, the Cobras have outscored opponents by a combined score of 103-22 to stay at No. 1.

Spring break is behind us and the playoff push is on.

Park Vista is still at the top of the rankings, as the Cobras are rolling as expected. But American Heritage and Boca Raton will have a chance to change that, as they will each face Park Vista before the end of the regular season.

Baseball: Area teams to take part in spring break tournaments

Spring break gives high school baseball teams a chance to take part in tournaments around the state and country.

Many Palm Beach County teams are taking advantage of the opportunity.

Five teams from Palm Beach County will travel to Sanford and Altamonte Springs to take part in the Florida League High School Invitational next week. And 10 of the area’s teams will stay close to home to play in the annual GGI Classic hosted by Lake Worth High, which will be played at John I. Leonard High and Dave Manzo Field.

Baseball: Dwyer player suspended for pouring urine in opponent’s dugout

A Dwyer baseball player faces discipline after it was discovered he covered the visiting dugout, later occupied by intra-city rival Palm Beach Gardens, with urine before the teams played a key district game at Dwyer High on Friday night. [More]

One-run losses plague Dwyer

Dwyer (7-8) has been struggling this season but what’s made it worse is that of the Panthers’ eight losses, six have been by one run. The latest was a 2-1 loss to Royal Palm Beach in eight innings on Tuesday in the Lake Worth Spring Break Tournament, which was the third one-run loss in a row.

Update: Dwyer beat Cardinal Newman in the Panthers’ second game Tuesday 10-0.
