It’s the high school football offseason — also known as camp season.

It was another busy week on the recruiting front.

Over the past seven days, 2016 Atlantic CB Antwaine Richardson verbally committed to Michigan, and 2017 Park Vista DT/T BJ Etienne and 2016 Pope John Paul II WR Dominic Milanese received their first offers. (Find out all of the Palm Beach County recruiting news from the past week here)

Recruiting: 600 players participate in satellite camp run by FAU, Ohio State coaches

After attending Game 6 of the NBA Finals in Cleveland on Tuesday night, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer was in Boca Raton the next morning.

Meyer and Buckeyes assistant coaches helped out at a satellite high school football camp hosted by Florida Atlantic on Wednesday morning. Owls head coach Charlie Partridge and his staff were also at the camp held at the Tom Oxley Athletic Center on FAU’s campus. [More]

Glades Central’s Ray McDonald released by Bears after another domestic violence arrest

Veteran NFLer and Pahokee native Ray McDonald was arrested on misdemeanor domestic violence and child endangerment charges, Santa Clara police told NBC Bay Area on Monday. Two San Jose (Calif.) police sources confirmed the arrest, telling CSN Bay Area that they helped the Santa Clara police make the arrest.

Per the NBC station, Santa Clara Lt. Kurt Clarke said in a news release that McDonald was arrested after officers said he “physically assaulted the victim while she was holding a baby.”

The Associated Press reports that the Bears have released McDonald. Bears offensive lineman Chris Long quickly reacted to the move by tweeting [More]

Glades Central to join Pahokee in spring football game

Glades Central and Pahokee will face off on the football field twice this year.

Along with the annual Muck Bowl, the Raiders have agreed to join the Blue Devils and Lakeland-Victory Christian for a three-way spring jamboree held at Pahokee High on May 29, according to Glades Central coach Rick Casko. The structure of the scrimmage is still being worked out. [More]

Glades Central won’t be playing a spring football game.

The Raiders were originally scheduled to host Boynton Beach at 7 p.m. on Friday, but that plan has changed due to logistics. [More]

2016 Big Board breakdown: No. 9, Ja’kevious Vickers

Each weekday leading up to the start of spring practice, we’ll release a new player from the top 10 of our Class of 2016 Big Board and break down his game with an interactive graphic. Today, it’s No. 9, Ja’kevious Vickers, a running back at Glades Central.

Vickers was one of the area’s top running backs last season despite having limited experience at the position. A converted safety/linebacker, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound Vickers rushed for more than 1,000 yards and played a key role in leading the revitalized Raiders to the regional finals.
