Sports Illustrated columnist says high schools should cut football

Columnist and radio show host Frank Deford wrote Thursday that with states and school systems facing serious budget problems and increasing head-health concerns in football, high schools should seriously consider cutting the sport.


Treasure Coast star Keelin Smith suspended for three games by FHSAA

Treasure Coast’s Florida State-bound defensive back Keelin Smith (6-3, 185, No. 7 on the Big Board) has been suspended for three games by the FHSAA for throwing punches in his team’s 20-7 win over Jupiter.

The TCPalm first reported the suspension.

Smith’s suspension ends on Nov. 26, meaning he will miss Treasure Coast’s Class 6A regional quarterfinal game against Atlantic. If Treasure Coast wins, Smith would miss the following game as well.
