Baseball: Area teams to take part in spring break tournaments

Spring break gives high school baseball teams a chance to take part in tournaments around the state and country.

Many Palm Beach County teams are taking advantage of the opportunity.

Five teams from Palm Beach County will travel to Sanford and Altamonte Springs to take part in the Florida League High School Invitational next week. And 10 of the area’s teams will stay close to home to play in the annual GGI Classic hosted by Lake Worth High, which will be played at John I. Leonard High and Dave Manzo Field.

In Palm Beach County high school baseball, Class 8A is king.

If you needed evidence of that, just take a look at the third edition of Theprepzone.com state baseball poll released Tuesday. Three county teams are ranked in the Class 8A poll — Park Vista (No. 2), Seminole Ridge (No. 4) and Boca Raton (No. 8). Palm Beach Gardens did not make the list, but the Gators did receive an honorable mention.

Along with being ranked in the Class 8A poll, Park Vista is also No. 2 in the state poll that considers teams from all classifications. [More]

American Heritage baseball team jumps to No. 1 in Class 4A state poll

American Heritage’s baseball team started the season slowly, but the Stallions have since won six straight.

The second edition of Theprepzone.com state baseball poll reflected American Heritage’s recent hot play, as the Stallions jumped to No. 1 in the Class 4A poll released Wednesday. American Heritage was ranked No. 2 last week.

Palm Beach County is well represented in the Class 8A poll. Park Vista is No. 1 and Seminole Ridge is No. 8. Meanwhile, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington and Boca Raton received honorable mentions. [More]
