After spending 10 seasons as Jupiter Christian’s head football coach, Bill Powers decided it was time for something new.
It turns out the next chapter still includes football. Powers was named Suncoast’s new defensive coordinator this week following a successful tenure as Jupiter Christian’s head coach that included state titles in 2007 and 2008. [More]

Seven area teams advanced to the second round of the playoffs with wins Friday, while an eighth – Jupiter Christian – will move on after its first-round opponent, Hialeah-Champagnat, was forced to vacate its playoff spot due to violating one of the FHSAA’s bylaws.
Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington are still alive in the Class 8A playoffs following victories last week, and will play each other in the regional semifinals Friday. Jupiter Christian has officially advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
Hialeah-Champagnat, the Eagles’ first-round opponent, was notified by the Florida High School Athletic Association that it must vacate its playoff spot due to violating one of the FHSAA’s bylaws when it walked off the field and forfeited midway through last week’s regular-season game at Bradenton IMG Academy. The Miami Herald first reported the news.
The Lions appealed the FHSAA’s ruling, but it was denied on Friday morning, according to FHSAA spokesman Corey Sobers. An emergency appeal was heard on Friday at 9 a.m. [More]

Rain and lightning have already impacted one football game on the Week 3 schedule.
Inlet Grove’s game against Jupiter Christian, which was originally scheduled to be played Thursday at 7 p.m., has been postponed due to inclement weather. Instead, the contest will be played on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Inlet Grove, according to Palm Beach County School District athletics director Yetta Greene.
