There was a common thought before basketball season started that Palm Beach Lakes (1-5) would be among the area’s best teams despite losing eight seniors. It might be a while into the season before that forecast comes true. The Rams did return Myeisha Hall, a Post first team all-area selection last season, but their team consists of five juniors and four freshmen.
Just how young are they? When the Rams kept losing, the younger players thought they wouldn’t be able to play in the district tournament until coach Cassandra Rahming informed them that everyone makes the district tournament regardless of their regular season record. The young Rams got all starry-eyed when Rahming told them they’d be staying in a hotel for their holiday tournament in Fort Myers. One player wasn’t sure where to go for pregame introductions.
But that fact that the regular season is a mere warm-up for the postseason is giving them a reason to be optimistic.

The state swimming finals kick off on Wednesday in Orlando starting with Class 2A. Class 3A is on Friday and Class A is on Saturday. Eighteen schools from Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast will be represented at the state meet over the three days.
Boca Raton, Jupiter, Martin County, and Saint Andrews have the most swimmers and divers qualified out of the area’s schools and the Suncoast girls have a good shot at doing some damage as a team in the Class 2A final.
A gold medal alert goes to Paul Murray of American Heritage, who is going in as the top seed in the 50 free for Class 1A at 20.84 and the second seed in the 100 free at 47.21. Murray is ahead of Tommy Gutman of Jacksonville Bolles in the 50 free (20.87) and behind Teo D’Alessandro of Pine School in the 100 free (46.56).
