Recruiting: Oxbridge Academy’s Travis Homer sticking with Miami Hurricanes despite struggles

Despite the Hurricanes’ 34-23 loss to Cincinnati on Thursday and rumors swirling around head coach Al Golden’s future, Oxbridge Academy’s Travis Homer is still firmly committed to Miami.

“I’m pretty committed,” the running back said Friday.

Homer, a three-star recruit who committed to the Hurricanes on May 31, said he hopes Golden keeps his job. Many Miami fans do not feel the same, and some have even paid for anti-Al Golden banners to fly over the stadium during Hurricanes games. 

“I’m just going to keep my prayers up that he doesn’t get fired because I like him a lot,” Homer said Friday.

Football: Atlantic rises; American Heritage, Dwyer, Pahokee hold steady in latest AP Poll

Atlantic moved up a spot, and American Heritage, Dwyer and Pahokee maintained their positions in the Associated Press state football poll that was released Tuesday.

The Eagles, who hold the top spot in the Post’s Top 10, moved up one spot to No. 4 in Class 8A. The Panthers held their No. 2 spot from a week ago, trailing only powerhouse Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas. In Class 3A, the Stallions stuck at No. 4. The Blue Devils held on to the No 3 spot in Class 1A, as well.

Week 6 Football Look Ahead: Inside the new top 10 and top games

Week 5 seemed to be the week of the blowout. Only six area games were settled by a touchdown or less, with 14 having a score differential of 10 points or more.

The top five teams all took care of business Friday night, winning by an average of more than 23 points. No. 5 Boca Raton won by the biggest margin, defeating Santaluces 41 points while shutting out the Chiefs. Week 5 Football Look Ahead: A new top 10 and a look at the top games

Week 4’s slate of games wraps up with a pair of games Monday, but the Post’s Top 10 saw a small shake up after a pair of top-10 games Friday.

In a match up of two top-5 teams, top-ranked Atlantic rolled past No. 5 Glades Central. In the week’s other top-10 game, No. 9 Palm Beach Gardens defeated No. 10 Seminole Ridge by 29 points. However, the five other ranked teams that played non-ranked opponents in Week 4 all won, including No. 6 Boca Raton’s victory over then-undefeated Spanish River.
