AP pre-season football rankings include American Heritage, Dwyer, Wellington

American Heritage picked up where it left off last season, earning the No. 2 ranking in the Associated Press Class 3A state high school football poll released Monday. [More]

Football: Glades Central, PB Gardens players on ESPN Junior 300

ESPN named Glades Central quarterback James Blackman and Palm Beach Gardens linebacker Vandarius Cowan to its Junior 300 list, which it released Monday.

Cowan was the higher ranked of the pair, coming in at No. 147, while Blackman ranked 230th.

Cowan, a 6-foot-4, 220 pound outside linebacker, committed to Florida State on June 11 after attending the Jimbo Fisher Football Camp in Tallahassee. He also has offers from Florida Atlantic, Georgia, Louisville, Notre Dame and West Virginia, according to Rivals.com

When Jeff Tomlinson leaves for his summer trip to Las Vegas each year, his fellow Palm Beach Gardens High football coaches usually give him a hard time.

“JT is going out to Vegas to chase that World Series of Poker bracelet,” is what he hears.

But after a magical four-day stretch at the World Series of Poker’s $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Eight-Handed tournament last week, the Gardens defensive backs coach won’t have to hear that anymore. [More]

Palm Beach Gardens defensive end Vandarius Cowan grew up a Florida State fan, and on Thursday the four-star recruit made official his intention to play for the Seminoles in 2017. [More]
