Palm Beach Gardens dropped its first game of the season last week after opening at 8-0, falling 5-4 to Wellington on a seventh-inning double Feb. 25. The Gators hung on to the top spot in our poll despite the loss, though Park Vista, Jupiter, Spanish River and the Wolverines all could challenge for the No. 1 ranking in the coming weeks. [More]

Just one team in our poll remains unbeaten this week, following losses by Dwyer, Wellington and Jupiter. Top-ranked Palm Beach Gardens moved to 7-0 after earning impressive wins over Jupiter and Palm Beach Central. The 2014 softball season got underway Feb. 3, and the extra base hits already are flying throughout the county. Expectations are high among area teams, all of whom saw their first action of the season last week. [More]

American Heritage is the area’s only state champ in 2013. Several other programs put together nice runs, including King’s Academy and Palm Beach Central. West Boca got back to the regional finals despite losing its best pitcher.
But the 2013 softball campaign is over. Let’s handicap the 2014 season.

A few more local teams were weeded out of the regional playoffs. The Treasure Coast lost each of its playoff teams. Palm Beach County still has seven teams left, though four of them play each other.
