Park Vista catcher Joe Genord will play baseball for South Florida instead of signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cobras coach Larry Greenstein said Friday.
The Dodgers selected Genord with the 582nd overall pick in the 19th round in the the June Amateur Draft. Friday is the last day drafted players can sign with a Major League team, with 5 p.m. being the final deadline.
Genord hit .282 with four home runs and a team-best 25 RBIs as a senior for Park Vista, which made the state tournament this past season.

The 2015 Major League Baseball Draft finally came to a close Wednesday.
After 1,215 total picks over 40 rounds and three days, nine high school players from Palm Beach County were drafted. Six of the players were selected Wednesday.
Over the first two days, three Palm Beach County high school players had been drafted headlined by Royal Palm Beach pitcher Triston McKenzie and Park Vista pitcher Austin Smith, who were both selected on Day 1 of the draft Monday. (Read more about Day 1 here) [More]

A Palm Beach County school could not bring home a state baseball title this season.
But one local team did finish the year in Theprepzone.com state baseball poll’s All-Classification rankings, as Park Vista came in at No. 4 on the list. The Cobras’ season ended with a loss to top-ranked Miami Columbus in a Class 8A state semifinal on May 20. [More]

Park Vista hovered around the top of the MaxPreps Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings throughout the season, but that changed this week.
After falling to Miami Columbus in a Class 8A state semifinal this past Wednesday, the Cobras dropped from No. 2 to No. 26 in the latest version of the national poll released Monday. Park Vista finished with a 28-3 record and lost in the same semifinals for the second consecutive season. [More]
