Making the playoffs did not make 2009 a good season for Royal Palm Beach. The Wildcats went 4-7 after a terrific 11-2 record the year before. By virtue of district wins over Lake Worth and John I. Leonard in 12-5A, the Wildcats sneaked into the post-season and lost their first-round game to Palm Bay-Bayside.

A lot changed in the off-season. Coach Frank Kunf reconstructed his staff. One of his main moves was bringing in former Palm Beach Lakes head coach Dan Sanso as defensive coordinator.

In the 2009 regular season, only four area running backs had more than Taylor’s 149 carries. His workload spiked sharply in the playoffs, when he ran 146 times in just four games.

He was productive (1,439 yards and 28 touchdowns in the regular season, 1,158 and 19 in the post-season), but there has to be concern about his mileage given that Glades Day needs him healthy for three more seasons.
