Former Village Academy star Tre’Quan Smith wins AAC award

Central Florida may not have won a game this season, but freshman receiver Tre’Quan Smith, a Village Academy alumnus, was named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year on Wednesday.

Smith, who was a 2013 first-team All-Area selection, finished the season with 52 catches and 724 yards, which are both UCF freshman records. Smith, a redshirt freshman, also had four receiving touchdowns.

Smith was a dual-threat player at Village Academy, catching 30 passes for 674 yards and running for 429 yards to finish with 14 total touchdowns in his senior year.

Recruiting: Village Academy DE Kevin Bronson granted release from Virginia Tech, will enroll at USF

Just nine days before Kevin Bronson planned to report to Virginia Tech, he was forced to change his plans.

Hokies coaches informed the former Village Academy defensive end that he did not qualify due to his test scores this past Friday. Although Bronson knew his test scores were not up to the university’s standards, he was made to believe it wouldn’t be an issue.

Recruiting: Village Academy WR Jean Constant commits to Bryant University

Jean Constant was so impressed with his unofficial visit to Bryant University on June 14, he wanted to make sure he left the campus a Bulldog.

The 5-foot-9 Village Academy wide receiver did just that, verbally committing to Bryant on his trip to the school. Constant, who will be a senior this fall, chose the Rhode Island-based Football Championship Series program in the Northeast Conference over Northern Illinois.
