LeAnna Cotton played (and excelled) at three sports at Okeechobee. Now she’ll focus on one at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Cotton signed a volleyball scholarship for the Division III school.

St. Andrew’s senior Taylor Kennedy appears to be a trendsetter in Palm Beach County volleyball. The senior is believed to be the first county volleyball player to sign a Division I sand volleyball scholarship.
She signed this week to play for Stetson University in DeLand this fall.

Spanish River girls’ volleyball coach Karen Adams wants to make one thing clear: The Sharks’ 14-13 record isn’t exactly a fair representation of her team.
“We didn’t have four or five of our key players at (early-season tournaments),” Adams said. “I mean, eight of those losses came at those tournaments.”
Now that Spanish River has returned to full health and power, Adams said her team is where it should be: in the regional quarterfinals. The Sharks host Davie-Nova on Wednesday in the Class 5A regional quarterfinals at 6 p.m.

The hits just keep on coming for Martin County volleyball standout Nicole Walch. Along with her sister, Elise, our Big Schools Player of the Year last season, Walch led Martin County to a Class 5A state title last season and is the star of the top-ranked Tigers this year.
She can add going to a big-time college volleyball program to her list of accomplishments. Walch, a junior, committed to the University of Nebraska on Monday night, her coach Krissy Brown Schmidt confirmed.

John Carroll, No. 6 Park Vista, No. 4 Royal Palm Beach, No. 7 Spanish River, and No. 8 West Boca are going to get a really good idea of just how good they are in the early part of the season as the five are set to compete in a 48-team tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Orlando Sports Center.

Boomer Kurlander, who was the Post’s 2009 boys volleyball Player of the Year at Park Vista, will continue playing at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa.
